(More customer reviews)These cookies are just wonderful! I've eaten them for years and have lost tons of weight, even though they're not a diet cookie. I just substitute one for my breakfast. They are loaded with fiber and satisfy you for hours. They're great to have in an emergency when you can't or don't have time to eat. I haven't had any flavor that I don't like, but the chocolate chunk raisin is my favorite. At Christmas time, there's a wonderful version with cherries in it. They're even great warmed in the microwave for a few seconds. Just love these cookies!

(More customer reviews)I first heard about steel cut oats on the Oprah show about its health benefits. First of all I DO NOT like regular oatmeal like you buy in the grocery store. I don't like the slimy texture. But I figured I'd try steel cut oats and I'm glad I did. They are delicous and very good for you! The warm nutty aroma when they are cooking is very appetizing. I add a little bit of sugar or splenda and some cinnimon, it tastes fantastic! I also sometimes skip the cinnimon and add a tablespoon of granola and/or some dried berries. Excellent healthy breakfast.
Normally these take about 30 minutes to cook on the stovetop. I found a way to cut the cooking time in half. Take 1/3 cup of oats, and 1 1/3 cup of water and put it in a large microwavable bowl. Cook in the microwave on High for 5 minutes, stir, then another 5 minutes, then stir again, and then cook about another 2-3 minutes until the texture is just the way you like it.
For those of you who are asking what the difference is between regular oatmeal and steel cut oatmeal:
-Steel-Cut Oats are whole grain groats (the inner portion of the oat kernel) which have been cut into two or three pieces using steel discs. Golden in color and resembling mini rice particles, they are as nature intended - nothing added and nothing taken out.
-Rolled oats are flake oats that have been steamed, rolled, re-steamed and toasted. Due to all of this additional processing they have lost some of their natural taste, goodness and texture.

The taste is excellent and packs a full day of fiber. Fiber One Honey Clusters has 13 grams of fiber and 160 calories. Fiber One Original contains 14 grams of fiber and just 60 calories. So for 220 calories in cereal, plus 110 calories in 1 cup skim milk and 25 calories for the 1 T. craisins you get 355 total calories and 28 grams fiber in one bowl! Sure beats donuts and coffee and you're not hungry till lunch!

I was afraid the product would be syrupy sweet and unpleasant to drink, but I was surprised to find it actually is tasty and refreshing. I don't understand how a clear liquid can contain fiber, but I'm taking their word for it. The grape flavor is appealing, not overpowering, and it's just sweet enough to be enjoyable to drink. It's perfectly acceptable for drinking with meals or during a workout.
Second, the effect: I wouldn't say it really suppresses my appetite, but rather dulls any sense of urgency about eating. I still get hungry enough for a meal, but it's easier to choose modest portions of healthy foods, and I don't feel any need for dessert. For me, the biggest challenge in limiting my intake is overcoming the emotional need to eat. On days when stress challenges my self-control, this product cannot overcome my need to eat more. But on days when I am motivated to remain in control, it definitely helps. Is some of this a placebo effect? Perhaps. But if it works, does it matter?

You can get a sample of the difference by trying whole grain or whole wheat bread versus regular white bread.
Don't confuse whole grain with whole wheat, they are not the same and have slightly different tastes. Whole grain tends to be sweeter and contains the same overall fiber and health benefits. Whole grain is an amalgam of different grains: rice, oats, wheat, etc., using all the portions of the grain, whereas whole wheat is just 100% of the whole wheat grain. Heartland sells both so you can try each too. Either whole grain product holds their body more al dente and require a slightly longer cooking time. I like them both with whole wheat seemingly less sweet. The angel hair variety is notable as the fiber really makes it easier to make it al dente [ as its thinner, its more sensitive to over cooking].

He began drinking Pediasure as his complete nutrition at 11 months adjusted. While he did still eat table foods, he was incapable of eating enough food to make a caloric difference during the day.
Well, after two months on Pediasure (with Fiber, to make his stools looser), he was finally ON the weight growth chart, after NEVER having been on the chart before! And after another 2 months, he is making steady strides towards a good growth curve.
Although the containers say it tastes better very cold, my son prefers Pediasure at room temperature. He does not like cold drinks at all. My only complaint is that these containers tend to dent easily, because they are coming through the mail. It's always worrisome when you find a dented container of food; however, in no cases have I found that the contents are disturbed/befouled by the denting. Good stuff!
