(More customer reviews)I like using protein bars for breakfasts on the go and as meal supplements, so I'm always looking to find new ones that are healthy AND taste great. Kashi's GOLEAN bar in the Oatmeal Raisin Cookie flavor is my latest discovery. The tasty bar really is reminiscent of an oatmeal cookie, with a similar chewy texture. It also offers 13 grams of protein--not as high as some sports-marketed bars, but still very good--and a whopping 6 grams of fiber (more than All Bran bars!). An added bonus is the 10% RDA of Calcium, and finally, like all Kashi products, these bars are made with seven whole grains. Definitely a recommended addition to any healthy diet!

(More customer reviews)If I am famished from hunger, and a real meal is many hours off, I don't feel bad about eating one of these glorified candy bars as a mini-meal. It is filling and satisfying, and if you put chocolate and peanut butter on a shoe, I'd probably like it. The chocolate coating is formulated for durability and it does that job well, although there is a price to be paid in taste. The filling, however, is the best part. Peanutty and chewy, the grains, chocolate and peanut butter combine brilliantly leaving me wanting another one or three.
The problem with bars like this is that they are neither plain candy bars nor real nutrition, and they have to balance the great taste of candy with the fact that they actually have to have some nutritional value to compensate for the huge premium the makers charge for this bar over a plain old candy bar. Kashi does this better than most of the competition, and their bar is a bit larger and sturdier than most, which makes it the first choice for my gym bag or purse for an emergency meal.
Try not to let these slip from "emergency food" to "substitute for lunch" or "regular snack." These bars, although healthier than candy, are not a real meal, do not have the fiber and nutrients to hold you over to the next real meal, and are a lot more candy bar than piece of fruit. These are good to keep in a bag for a day when you have no alternatives, but if you find that there are too many emergencies to be good for your health or your waistline, try putting an apple in that purse instead.

(More customer reviews)I'm actually a diabetic; and cereal, because of it's high glucose content, is usually something I stay away from. If I eat cereal for breakfast, even the good cereals like corn flakes or cheerios, I see a sudden spike in blood sugar and usually get tired at around 10 or 11am. These Nature's Path Cereals, this one and the granola, are the only cereals from which I experience absolutely no negative effects. Because of the natural ingredients, pumpkin seeds, flax, etc. this cereal does not immediately turn to sugar for the body to process. Instead, it leaves you feeling full and energized for a long time. They taste incredible too; seriously, I prefer this over regular raisin bran or whatever you'd compare it to. Strongly recommend!

I asked around and apparently the metal taste comes from an unhealthy change in the soy nut starches during frying. I got online in search of an organic version of this product and I found one by a company named Landgarten who produces a variety of Chocolate Covered Organic Snacks. Landgarten cooks their soy beans with hot air at low temperatures to avoid that metallic taste. I ordered 20 packets, which is their case size. I suggest you don't compromise on your health.

(More customer reviews)I guess there might be other natural peanut butters for sale in expensive health-food stores, but I haven't tried them. However, in the regular super-markets, the only peanut butter I'll buy is SKIPPY NATURAL! It is the best tasting, and won't clog your arteries. For those who think it is un-healthy because they remove some peanut oil and replace it with natural palm oil, I disagree. Peanut oil separates and has to be stirred up every time, or you have to refrigerate it, and then it doesn't spread well. Palm oil has saturated fat, but it is the healthy kind, produced by the palm tree, not chemically altered partially hydrogenated oil like in regular p.b. Palm oil is high in oleic acid, like olive oil, among many other things, which are good for you. Sure, plain peanuts and salt makes a pretty healthy p.b., but it is inconvenient and my family doesn't like it, and I don't care for it much myself. If we can eat a peanut butter that tastes great, keeps well in the cabinet, spreads easily, and is better for us than most, and maybe just about as good for us as any other, what do you think we're going to do?

(More customer reviews)I have been searching for a TVP product for a while now and when I saw Bob's Red Mill TVP on the net I looked for it at Amazon and there it was. I hadn't used it in years, so it was a new learning experience and I got an acceptable burger on my first try, but not quite what I was looking for. With a lot more research on the net I discovered that a mixture of TVP and Vital Wheat Gluten, also from Bob's Red Mill and available at Amazon, will give you a much meatier burger. There are several websites that can help you, one is Vegan Dad, which can give you a recipe that will help you find a better burger that isn't so mushy as TVP can be, also check out Thrifty Living. If you are trying TVP for the first time, don't give up on it. Go out to You Tube and type in TVP burger recipes and see what you can find. Also check out Everyday Dish on You Tube. It is a learning experience for sure.

(More customer reviews)First of all, don't be put off by the price. If you've kept track of grocery store receipts lately or the sharp increase in basic foods over the last year, you may see how this product could save you time, gas and MONEY.
At the time of this writing, it cost about $16.88 for four packages of this mix. EACH package easily serves 8-16 people with soup left over.
While the instructions note to add 4 cups of water or a water and broth combo, we quickly discovered we had to double or even triple the liquid added. No problem there, because we had more soup!
If you don't have fresh veggies or spices around, this will suffice as is and it is thick and satisfying. If you garden, you'll improve the taste by adding fresh chopped parsley, garlic and whatever veggies you want. A can of tomatoes (or fresh, chopped ones) does no harm. This is a mix you can play with, add ingredients and spices.
IMPORTANT: this is not a salted mix. It is full of split peas, barley, lentils, whole wheat pasta, dehydrated spinach, tomato, onion, etc. If you don't use salt, consider adding a salt substitute. I also added basil. It was delightful, quick and is now a pantry staple.
Nutrition: 330 calories (1/2 cup) only 20 calories from fat. Significant source of iron at 22% of the Daily Value. Protein: 20 grams. Fiber - 8 grams. Add some bread and you have a meal, rounded out with some greens, perhaps.

The taste is excellent and packs a full day of fiber. Fiber One Honey Clusters has 13 grams of fiber and 160 calories. Fiber One Original contains 14 grams of fiber and just 60 calories. So for 220 calories in cereal, plus 110 calories in 1 cup skim milk and 25 calories for the 1 T. craisins you get 355 total calories and 28 grams fiber in one bowl! Sure beats donuts and coffee and you're not hungry till lunch!

I decided to buy one of each flavors at my local grocery store before I buy a pack of 12 here on amazon. In my opinion, the Chocolate Turtle ones are the best tasting and closest to an actually candy bar.
The toasted pecans on the outside are what makes this bar my favorite. And its good for you health wise!! 6g of Fiber and 12g of Protein.

(More customer reviews)I bought these as a way to supplement my meals, as well as get more fiber and protein. First of all, these bars are fairly nutritious. They are made of natural ingredients and whole grains, just like the cereal. Each bar contains 6g of fiber and 9g of protein. Considering most people in the United States don't get enough fiber, that is a very decent amount. Previously I was eating the Fiber One Bars Oats & Chocolate, 5-Count Boxes (Pack of 6). While you get 3g more fiber in those bars, you only get 2g of Protein. The Kashi bars are made of better (and more nutritious) ingredients, and they taste better as well. Each bar has only 180 calories, but they are very filling due to the fiber and protein.
Although a bar made of brown rice and oats doesn't sound very tasty, these are some of the best bars I've tried. As the name implies, they're not chewy, but not too crunchy either. Below is the main nutritional info:
