Therefore, for me, the best alternative is to buy organic groceries and to introduce a lot of fibers in my diet. So far, I found that Bob's Red Mill Organic products offer good qualities without sacrificing tastes.
I live in Oregon but too lazy to drive to Bob's Red Mill store. Most grocery stores don't carry all the stuff I want. I found it's a steal with Amazon's sale price plus its free shipping.
I wish Amazon would also carry Bob's Red Mill's Wheat Germ.

Little more cumbersome to deal with but worth the savings. I love the Subscribe and Save. Don't have to worry about running out or taking the extra time each month to place an order. Amazon takes the work out of shopping for my favorite cereal and saves me a bundle too. By the way, if you've got IBS with constipation this cereal plus Activa once a day REALLY makes a big difference.

(More customer reviews)IMO, Pop-Tarts are not the most nourishing food, but they're convenient for when everyone is running late ... for school, work, or appointments.
The kids like them because they're easy to pop into the toaster or microwave and they taste good--anything that's sweet, you know! Most kids I know seem to prefer the strawberry and chocolate-flavored Pops, but blueberry is my favorite. Clarification: I like them, but do not love them; much too sweet for my taste-buds, but still ... when in a hurry, they come in handy.
I also like them because they have a long shelf life and are quick and easy to prepare. If you have very young children, either heat the Pop-Tarts yourself or supervise the kids as they pop them into the appliance of your choice. Don't want those little fingers getting burned!
Kids learn fast, and all they have to do is remove the Pop-Tarts from the pouch and pop them into the toasting appliance or microwave. Be sure to let the Pop-Tarts cool briefly because the filling can get very hot. When using the microwave, use a microwave-safe plate.
And that's all there is to it!
Like I said, not the most nourishing food--although they contain some healthy ingredients--but it's quick energy and great for rush hours. We all have plenty of those.

(More customer reviews)In a world filled with artificial colors, artificial flavors, artificial preservatives, and artificial sweeteners, it is refreshing to find an all natural product like SweetLeaf SteviaPlus.

SweetLeaf SteviaPlus is well packaged and very convenient to use. All it takes is 1 or 2 packets to sweeten up a cup of coffee (depending on your tastes). You can easily take the packets with you when you travel. It tastes great. It is sweeter than sugar, so the packets only have a tiny amount of powder in them. I find that SweetLeaf SteviaPlus tastes very similar to sugar, but has its own unique flavor. There is a very slight licorice aftertaste that some people may notice. I happen to like licorice so this is not a problem for me. SweetLeaf SteviaPlus goes very well with coffee and tea.
Like most other people, I have on occasion tried the other artificial low/no calorie sweeteners that are common place: saccharin, aspartame (NutraSweet), sucralose (Splenda), etc.
Let's compare the low/no calorie sweeteners available.
Saccharin has been used for over 100 years. It has stood the test of time. It was invented back in 1879. It has been reported to possibly cause cancer in rats, however many studies have shown its use is not linked to cancer in human beings. Today it is considered a very safe sweetener by many organizations world wide. There are little reports of side effects. I haven't noticed any ill effects from this man made chemical, however because it has an aspirin-like aftertaste, I don't use it much.
Aspartame (marketed as NutraSweet, Equal, etc. and available in many soft drinks), in my opinion, tastes more like sugar than saccharin. However, aspartame makes me feel a little dizzy, sluggish, cloudy headed, and causes me to get digestive problems so I cannot use it. The reason most diet soft drink companies use as little aspartame as possible is because too many people complain of side effects when larger amounts are used. In 1995, FDA Epidemiology Branch Chief, Thomas Wilcox reported that aspartame complaints represented 75% of all reports of adverse reactions to substances in the food supply from 1981 to 1995. There are many conflicting reports about the safety of this chemical.
Sucralose (marketed as Splenda) is the latest man made no calorie chemical sweetener to hit the market place. Sucralose does taste more like sugar than any other low/no calorie sweetener I've tasted. I think it tastes almost exactly like sugar. However, sucralose causes me to get very bad stomach pains, so I cannot use it. Stomach pain is just one of the commonly known side effects of ingesting sucralose.
SweetLeaf SteviaPlus contains Stevia. Stevia is an ancient all natural no calorie sweetener extracted from a plant native to Paraguay. According to several sources, in South America it has been used safely for over 1500 years. It is just starting to get popular in the US. Stevia is very popular in Japan where it has been used for over 30 years as a sweetener commercially to make many foods. According to extensive tests done in Japan, Japan considers Stevia to be safe for human consumption as a sweetener. In the US, the FDA has approved Stevia as a supplement only. Many thousands of people use Stevia everyday with no adverse reactions to it. Some individuals with allergies to plants in the daisy family may be sensitive to Stevia. You should always exercise caution when adding anything new to your diet especially if you have known allergies.

There was at least one "woody" palm heart in every can. I have never had this happen before when I had purchased them locally. To have an entire case like this was quite an unpleasant surprise! Palm hearts are one of my favorite foods and I will purchase them again, but will probably try another brand.

(More customer reviews)If you love chocolate, but want to live healthily and avoid all the sugar, here is the perfect solution! These chocolate chips taste delicious, have only 1g carb per serving, and even has 7g of dietary fiber per serving!
First, the flavor. I adore chocolate and have done several chocolate tastings where we compared Godiva, Ghirardelli, Lindt, etc. I generally like a good quality semi-sweet to dark chocolate style. These chips are delicious. This is not some carob-chip chalky flavor that you have to "settle for". It is a real, rich, delicious chocolate flavor. The texture is perfect too.
How they do it is using chocolate liquor, cocoa butter, cocoa powder along with polydextrose. Polydextrose is a soluble fiber (which gives you the 7g fiber per 2 Tbsp serving) - it also provides sweetness.
These are perfect if you're making a healthy style of chocolate chip cookies, perhaps with almond meal. I always have these on hand for ice cream. There are many super recipes for sugar free ice cream - and several manufacturers have low sugar ice creams on the market.
So I start with a vanilla flavor, to keep the base sugar level down low and to give me the greatest number of options. Then sometimes I add in these chips - and voila!! A low sugar version of chocolate chip ice cream, with the chips added in, is just right for an evening dessert snack. You can adjust the chips just right to match your mood!
Now, the only down side here? I've never seen these chocolate chips in a regular store. I've only found them online. This means that I tend to order in bulk to maximize how much I can get for a single shipping fee. It's not a huge deal - I order in a bunch of the chips and random other things - but it doesn't mean I can't just run down to the local market if I really do run completely out. So you need to keep an eye on your stock and remember to resupply when you get down to your last container.
Still, it's a relatively minor problem for a baking supply that is just so tasty. Highly recommended!

(More customer reviews)After reading something about this product possibly lowering Triglycerides, I wanted to see if it would work for me. Historically my Triglyceride levels were around 300. I was only on this for 3 weeks (2 TBS a day mixed in my yogurt) when I went for my blood work. The results shown they had been lowered to 205! And that's only after 3 weeks on Salba seed with no change in diet. I can't wait to see my next results after a couple more months. Also, my joints ache less and the extra fiber is working--not to mention the Omega 3 benefits. I've always had a high energy level so I can't comment on that aspect. All in all a great product.
