Chia seeds are one of the newest trends in health food eating (yes, these are the seeds used to make chia pets!). They are an excellent source of Omega-3 fatty acids (not quite as high as flax seeds but up there with salmon). They are also very high in fiber, proteins, minerals, and disease-fighting plant phytochemicals. Depending on what you read, these may be useful for maintaining balanced blood sugar levels in diabetics, decreasing blood pressure, and weight loss.
So from a health perspective, these are wonderful. So how do they taste? They taste a bit like sesame seeds, a little nutty but fairly neutral. They are fairly adaptable and can be used in all kinds of food (I've been adding them to yogurt and smoothies). They should be good in baked goods and in any recipe that uses sesame seeds.
These should be stored in a fridge or freezer to prevent them from going rancid.
These were a hit with the family and Chia seeds will become a diet staple.

Chia seed originated in South America and was a staple in the diets of ancient Mayans and Aztecs. Today, chia is grown by passionate farmers dedicated to this miraculous seed, using sustainable farming methods to produce clean and nutritious chia of the highest quality. The tiny seeds of the chia plant can be eaten right out of the bag, sprinkled on hot cereal and used in baking, for a nutritional boost comparable only to flaxseed in Omega 3 and dietary fiber content.
